CIS ranks first in four categories among the best private schools in Columbia

Columbia Independent School (CIS) was ranked first on the 2024 lists of the best private high schools and K-12 schools in Columbia, according to Niche, a Pittsburgh-based provider of information on K-12 schools. CIS also ranked first for STEM learning and College Prep in Columbia. Statewide, CIS ranked 4th on the list of best K-12 schools in Missouri and 6th on the list of best private high schools in Missouri, an improvement over last year’s rankings of 5th and 10th, respectively.
When compiling its annual lists, Niche considers a variety of data, including composite ACT/SAT scores, college enrollment rates, student/teacher ratio, culture and diversity, and feedback from parents and students.
“The close-knit community, challenging academics, and opportunities for achievement in arts and athletics is appealing to many families,” explains Bridgid Kinney, the Head of School at CIS.
“Preparing students for life after upper school is equally important. Families appreciate that we help foster life-long learners and future leaders who have a strong growth mindset and a focus on accountability and community service.”
To serve our growing 9th-12th grade division, CIS will open a new upper school building in Fall 2024. We are also making renovations to our current building, in spaces serving the lower and middle schools, and creating a warm environment for our new three-year-old program.

Columbia Independent School is a coeducational, nonsectarian, college preparatory school, serving 414 students in junior kindergarten through 12th grade. CIS offers small class sizes focused on individualized learning, global perspectives curriculum at all levels and dedicated, high-quality teachers.
