Dr. Sarah Primmer named new CIS upper school director
Columbia, MO – Columbia Independent School (CIS) selected Dr. Sarah Primmer as its upper school director after a national search last spring. Dr. Primmer joined CIS in 2015 as a learning support specialist, was named assistant middle and upper school director in 2024, and assumed the role of upper school director on July 1, 2025.
A member of the school’s leadership team, Dr. Primmer leads the day-to-day operations of the upper school division, collaborates with upper school faculty, and guides nearly 90 students in grades 9-12.
“Dr. Primmer’s deep knowledge of educational trends and best practices, strong relationships with students and families, and years of experience as a CIS educator made her the standout candidate to lead the upper school,” said CIS Head of School Bridgid Kinney. “Under her leadership, we will continue to provide a rich educational experience for our oldest students as they prepare for college and adult life.”
Dr. Primmer holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s of education in Cross Categorical Special Education K-12, and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.
Columbia Independent School is a college-preparatory school serving nearly 470 students age 3 through 12th grade.
