Teaching with Pride: Mrs. Aisha Qureshi
What is your background in education?
I have been teaching since 1999, and I joined CIS this year. Previously, I was the lower school principal at the American School of Marrakesh in Morocco after being a teacher there for four years.
Where did you attend school and what is your degree?
I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Outside of teaching, what are your favorite hobbies and interests?
I love to travel, read, and hang out with my family. I also like to crochet.
How do you keep things fresh and exciting in the classroom?
By getting to know the students and what they like, and connecting their learning to their interests.
Describe one or two ways you like to connect with your students.
Playing games with them, listening to their stories, and laughing with them.
How would you describe your teaching style? Over the years, I have adopted an eclectic teaching style, but overall, I see myself as a facilitator, one who guides and provides the students with the tools, guidance, and resources they need for discovery learning.
How would you describe CIS to a stranger?
A wonderful learning community where students feel comfortable to be who they are and where they get excellent learning experiences by the committed and talented faculty and staff.
What has been your favorite moment as a teacher?
Watching my students perform on stage to teach the audience about a character trait, and when things did not go as planned, they figured out how to work together and continue the show as a team.
