Teaching with Pride: Steve Dawson
How long have you been teaching at CIS?
I taught an after-school improv class at CIS for a few semesters through an outside organization, but this is my first official semester working at CIS. I have been teaching acting and improv for six years total!
Where did you attend school and what is your degree in?
I have my degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri.
Outside of teaching, what are your favorite hobbies/interests?
I love playing pickleball, performing with my improvisation team & watching old movies, preferably mysteries/film noir. Oh, and old “Saturday Night Live” sketches.
What are you most excited for this year at CIS?
I am SUPER excited to direct two productions this year in the fabulous, brand-new theater here at CIS! The fall production will be You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.
How do you connect with your students?
As a teacher, it’s very easy to let yourself do all the talking. One way I connect with my students is to give them many opportunities for them to tell me about themselves through daily check-ins. I love hearing about their interests, family, friends, etc. I think that personal connection is important, and it helps me help them be a fantastic student, and an all-around amazing human being!
